Ultra Electronics - Electrics reduced the integration time, the integration risk and the program time with a Model Based Development strategy based on SCADE Suite™

Ultra Electronics is a group of specialist businesses designing, manufacturing and supporting electronic and electro-mechanical systems, sub-systems and products for defence, security and aerospace applications worldwide. A focused market led group, it operates in Aerospace and Defence electronic niches.

With QinetiQ and BAE SYSTEMS, Ultra Electronics - Electrics demonstrated a small tracked vehicle with a complete drive by wire system. This UK MoD funded project investigated safety critical data buses, development processes, and legislation, reporting on the implications of their use on UK MoD Land Vehicles. The project was conducted under the IEC61508 Safety Management Process.

Ultra Electronics implemented a Model Based Development strategy based on SCADE Suite and reduced the integration time, the integration risk and the overall programme time. The overall system functionality and sub-systems were modelled with SCADE Suite and the application code for each subsystem was generated directly from SCADE Suite by each subsystem team.

The SCADE Suite models and interfaces took about 1 month to develop, lab integration and vehicle test took 3 days each, and with the safety assessments complete, the integrated systems were tested on the vehicle at a QinetiQ test facility in the UK.
