Using SCADE Suite at POSCON to develop a PSD System for the Sao Paulo METRO
Established in 1979, POSCON is a Korean systems engineering company supplying control technologies and equipments related to facility and factory automation in steel, non-ferrous metals, distribution, environment, power generation, energy and railroad signaling. POSCON has 1,000 specialized engineers developing electrical instrumentation and integrated computer systems.
POSCON was selected by the Brazil Sao Paulo Metro and Trends Co. to supply the Platform Screen Door (PSD) system for lines 2 and 4 of the Sao Paulo Metro system. A PSD system provides a reliable separation between the platform and the trace areas with fixed screen panels and bi-parting sliding doors ensuring that the passengers waiting on the platforms of subways, national railroad systems and light railways enjoy maximum protection. In addition to developing the PSD system, POSCON was also required to achieve EN50128 SIL-3 certification for the application.

POSCON was asked to develop the system on a tight deadline - only 12 months. As a result, POSCON selected SCADE Suite® for the project. SIL 3/4 requires many validation and verification activities at the source code level and SCADE Suite is the only software development tool providing a SIL 3/4 certified code generator. SCADE Suite's modelling capabilities also provide a functional approach from specification down to embedded code. The validation and verification savings on source code through the use of SCADE Suite would allow POSCON to meet the required delivery time frame.
Through the development process, POSCON discovered that SCADE Suite was quite easy to learn. POSCON developers were modelling the application after one week of training. SCADE Suite's simulation capabilities easily allowed for building functional test scenarios and asses their coverage with SCADE Suite MTC. With SCADE Suite KCG, POSCON discovered that there was no longer a need to write software code. The C code generated by SCADE Suite KCG was high quality and code be embedded on the target. POSCON realized significant validation and verification savings with SCADE Suite; there was essentially no need for code review. The PSD system project was a success and POSCON is in discussions to supply similar PSD systems to railway operators in China and Taiwan and throughout South America.
