After the successful use of SCADE on the A340, AIRBUS adopted it for several A380 projects
Most of the Airbus A380 on-board computers developed by AIRBUS and its suppliers benefit from SCADE technology.
Airbus started to use SCADE in the late nineties for several DO-178B level A controllers of the A340-500/600, including the Flight Control Secondary Computer and the Electric Load Management Unit. It triggered several benefits, in particular:
- A significant decrease of coding errors due to the extensive use of automatic code generation. For the Airbus A340 project, up to 70% of the code has been automatically generated.
- Shorter requirement change to in-flight test loops, with an improved traceability.
- A major productivity improvement, which is particularly significant considering that the size of software doubles with each new Airbus program.
Having achieved significant savings on the overall design cycle, Airbus chose SCADE for A380 projects.
SCADE Suite is used by Airbus and many of its main suppliers for the development of most of the A380 and A400M critical on-board software and for the secondary flying command system of the A340-500/600 aircraft, in operational use since August 2002, François Pilarski, Systems Engineering Framework, Senior Manager Engineering, Systems and Integration Tests, AIRBUS
