Avionics software development brings together a challenging and unique blend of safety-critical platforms, reliable software, sophisticated displays, and user input software. This is even more true when the system must meet safety-critical requirements per RTCA DO-178 Level A or other safety or security certification criteria. Starting with a reliable COTS software and hardware foundation coupled with a powerful graphics development and deployment environment can save significant program t time and help ensure successful product qualification and acceptance.
In this ECAST, we will introduce the value of the formal design, verification, and implementation technologies on COTS platforms used to develop critical embedded control applications under RTCA DO-178B. We will explore the problems developers face when confronted with DO-178B Level A compliance and how formal development techniques and COTS components can help increase productivity while maintaining the highest level of safety and reliability in applications. We will also discuss the newest standard in development, DO-178C.
Speakers
John Macauley - Technical Manager at Esterel Technologies - Supports the use of SCADE in the US for DO-178B avionics applications. Mr. Macauley received a M.Engr. in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a BSE in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
