Press Release:

ESL synthesis using Esterel Studio and the IP-XACT specifications from The SPIRIT Consortium

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, and ELANCOURT, France — July 20, 2006

Esterel Technologies announced today that it will demonstrate for the first time its ESL to implementation design flow supporting the IP-XACT™ specification from The SPIRIT Consortium™, at the general meeting for The Consortium to be held at the 2006 Design Automation Conference, Monday, July 24, 6–8 pm, San Francisco Marriott Hotel Salons 1,2,3.

In April 2006, Esterel Technologies joined The SPIRIT Consortium as a reviewing member to access the IP–XACT specification and upgrade its Esterel Studio product to support the new specifications for improved multi–vendor IP design and tool flow integration. Esterel Studio generates IP–XACT enabled meta–data so that the SystemC, VHDL and Verilog generated from Esterel Studio can now be packaged with an IP exchange format for easy import into other IP–XACT enabled ESL and RTL level tools.

Esterel Studio provides an automated ESL to RTL flow starting from a formally verified IP executable specification., says Gunther SIEGEL, Esterel Studio’s CTO. In the demonstration we will show at The SPIRIT Consortium general meeting at DAC, we generate SystemC models and VHDL/Verilog designs with IP–XACT descriptions, from a single Esterel Studio model. We checked smooth interoperability between three EDA partner tools supporting the IP–XACT standard, which proves the effectiveness of The SPIRIT Consortium Specifications.

Esterel Studio is the leading front–end design and verification suite for control–intensive hardware IP such as power management controllers, communication protocols, bus interfaces, peripheral controllers, I/O subsystems, cache controllers, arbiters, and processor core peripherals. Esterel Studio includes an editor, a simulator, supports assertions and formal verification.

Eric Bantegnie, CEO of Esterel Technologies comments: We believe that the quick pace of adoption of the SPIRIT Consortium IP–XACT standard will provide companies designing SoCs with a high degree of flexibility and time to market advantage over manual IP integration methods. The integration of Esterel Studio’s configurable IP design flow with IP integration tools using the IP–XACT specifications combines the best of the state of the art.
