Mike DeWalt Completes DO-178B Audit of SCADE/KCG

Paves the Way for Multiple FAA DO-178B Level A Certifications in North America

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — September 30, 2005

Esterel Technologies, a leading worldwide supplier of model based-design, validation, and verification tools for the development of highreliability embedded software applications, today announced that Mike DeWalt, a globally recognized Consultant Designated Engineering Representative (DER) appointed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and employed by Certification Services, Inc. (CSI), has completed his audit of Esterel’s SCADE™/KCG qualified C code generator.

“This is excellent news for current and prospective users of SCADE Suite™ and our KCG qualified Ccode generator,” states Chip Downing, CEO of Esterel Technologies, Inc. “The completion of this critical audit lays a solid foundation for our expanding North American customer base to complete their FAA and Transport Canada DO-178B Level A certifications in the coming months.”

DeWalt’s review, conducted at Esterel’s Engineering facility in Toulouse, France, led to 17 actions items. “My review resulted in three categories of action items: (a) process improvements, (b) additional documentation of processes and checklists, and (c) additional testing of Tcl scripts used in the SCADE/KCG product,” notes DeWalt. “When the action items from my review are properly addressed, the SCADE/KCG product will, in my judgment, meet the FAA-recommended criteria and practices for a DO-178B Level A development tool for developing C source code.” Esterel plans to close all action items for the SCADE 5.1 release in early 2006.

SCADE, a design environment for safety-critical embedded software applications, provides graphical specification capture and simulation, along with the capability to check safety properties at the model level. The SCADE/KCG qualified code generator meets some of the world’s highest safety standards, including RTCA/DO-178B and IEC 61508, enabling the rapid deployment of SCADE-generated designs in quality-critical and safety-critical products worldwide.

Mike DeWalt’s complete SCADE/KCG DO-178B audit report is available free of charge to all existing KCG DO-178B Qualification Kit customers.
